Kenneth Soh (Ken) testimony
I was born in Malaysia in the family of Mr. and Mrs Soh. Born in a Christian family, I have the privilege to attend Sunday School and church at a very young age. Nevertheless, I only became a true follower of Jesus in my teen years when the Holy Spirit worked in my heart to let me understand that I needed Jesus as the Savior and Lord of my life.
After accepting Jesus as my personal savior, I started to crave for God’s words and also served in my home church i.e., Klang Chinese Methodist Church in children’s choir, Youth fellowship, door to door evangelism, mission conferences and as church pianist. That laid a foundation for my spiritual growth and training to serve the Lord.
In 1992, God brought me to USA to study for higher education. In Missouri, my oldest sister, Susan and I, together with a professor from Nigeria, a brother from Laos and another brother from Malaysia, started an International Bible Study group to reach out to international students and scholars on Northwest Missouri State University campus. At that time I also started to attend Christian conferences and retreats hosted by Christian Witness Center during summer and winter semester breaks. Those were fruitful years for me as God used me to bring many people to Jesus through various ways. For example, before I graduated with my bachelor degree in piano performance, the Lord led me to share the gospel and witness to international students on one-to-one basis, and praise God, a good number of them gave their lives to Jesus. This is how God used my early training in my home church to help these students to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. At this time, God started to give me songs and I started to write them down.
In 1996, God brought me to Omaha, Nebraska to continue my graduate study at University of Nebraska at Omaha. At the meantime, God also opened doors of new opportunities for me to start recording my piano solos pieces and music. I also have the opportunities to serve as choir director and traveled as a concert pianist in different countries. He called me and gave me the gift of composing music.
In 1999, God made it possible for me to teach at Grace University, a Christian University where I started to train future generations of pastors, clergy and church youth leaders in worship ministry. Between 1998 and 2002, I was invited to travel to different parts of the world, such as, Switzerland, England, Canada, Singapore and Malaysia and throughout USA to share God-given musical gifts, His word and to testify of His goodness and faithfulness.
In 2002, while attending a conference out of town, I suddenly had a heart attack. By God’s mercy and grace I survived and God called me to publish Chinese gospel and worship music He gave me so I can bless more people. Soon after my recovery, God brought musically gifted people to me and together by God’s grace, we published the songs that God gave me. Sometimes, the Holy Spirit worked so powerfully that within a short two hour period, I composed the music and lyrics of over 20 songs. One morning, during my devotional time, the Holy Spirit inspired and prompted me to search for the key verses from the Bible that are important for me and for others to memorize. As I copied the verses, melodies started to flow through my mind. I went instantly to the piano and played the melodies, and amazingly the melodies fit the words and I completed all the Scripture songs without much editing. I knew that it must be from God and not my ability. On another occasion when I was listening to a sermon, a tune came into my mind and the lyrics then followed. As I scribbled down both of them, surprisingly the melody matched what I had written down in my sermon notes.
After all these wonderful experiences, God still wanted me to go deeper in my relationship with Him. By God’s sovereign will, I went through a difficult period in my life where I experienced what some early church fathers referred to as the period of ‘dark night of the soul’, the fifteenth-century Christian writer John of the Cross described this experience and he called it la noche oscura del alma. God is gracious and He led some Christian friends who had been through what I was going through to help me. After this experience, God became closer and more real to me where I learn to hear His voice and follow Him closer.
As of today 2016, I am currently called to be a lay minister who volunteers in different ministries whether in the local church or through Christian Worldwide Worship Ministries which I co-founded it in 2003. Besides producing Mandarin worship CD albums and my piano composition albums for the purpose of “Music for His glory, People for His Praise,”
I am married and have three lovely children. I am grateful that with my wife we are to be able to home-school our children and also be involved in serving people from different countries. Professionally, I am a composer, concert pianist, educator and entrepreneur. It’s my prayer and desire to have more opportunities to share God’s love through God given music and testimony as I wait on Him for directions and to open doors for greater Kingdom impact in service.
If you would like me to come to your city or church to share my testimony and music, please feel free to contact me at musicforwellness@hotmail.com or cwwwministries@gmail.com
By the grace of God and with the help of the body of Christ, I have composed over 10 music CDs, two of which made it to the bestseller list in Taiwan Christian bookstores. Samples of my music can be found on www.cwww.org or youtube under search name “Ken L soh pianist and composer”
As an educator, God helped me to graduate with Summa Cum Laude and gave me wisdom and knowledge to teach my piano students, many have won first or top prizes in State and City piano audition competitions.
